I made this for
mary_fan who requested a video to that song for the 2008 Secret Santa at
adama_roslin. It's the first video I've made in ages, and the last one I'll do using Windows Movie Maker. Evil program!
Song: Annie Lennox - Dark Road
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Character(s): Laura Roslin, Roslin/Adama
Betas:
caramelapples11 &
already_used (Tremendous thanks, girls!)

As for youtube, I recommend choosing "watch in HD" right under the bottom right corner of the video before watching. Trust me, it'll look so much better. Downloads: Download file, change .bsg → .wmv!
Commentary
00:00 This happened by accident. LOL. I meant to start with that scene, but I just put it in there to see if it fit at all, and it did, right from the very beginning, without any changes. And it also set the general theme for the video. Laura. Her life, her responsibilities, everything. How hard things must be for her. The presidency, the cancer, the pressure, the dark road.
00:28 And then there's Bill, who's her open door, so to speak. Who's there for her, who takes care of her when she's sick. But it wasn't always that way, they didn't get to that point so fast, it took a while. From the handshake in the Mini-Series to offering his hand in "Ressurection Ship I", from hostility to looking at her like that, they've come a long way. It didn't get there by itself.
00:40 There's a feelin // But you're not feelin' it at all pretty much sums up this scene. Things said to hurt each other, to mask their own pain.
00:47 There's a meaning // But you're not listening any more. He doesn't listen. But throws her in the brig instead. And that look tells us so much. It's a betrayal. Resulting in her going off all by herself to find the Tomb of Athena.
01:06 But Bill decides to forgive her, to reach out to her. But it's still not close enough. She's dying.
01:26 Heartbreaking. But one of my favourite moments. Seems you never realise a good thing // Till it's gone. And he remembers all those times. The good times. "Colonial Day". The Ground-Breaking Ceremony.
01:50 All the fires of destruction are still // Burnin' in my dreams // There's no water that can wash away // This longin' to come clean. Everything they've fought for, everything people have died for, is this. "Earth..." All hopes destroyed, nothing to make it bareable.
02:10 They've been through so much, through disappointments, though arguments, though disagreements, but in the end, we all know what was bound to happen.
02:25 Here begins the really angsty part. ;) But once I'd started cutting scenes of Laura crying, I couldn't stop, no matter how stupid that might sound. It just... fit.
03:05 After all this struggle, all the bad things that happened and still continue to happen, there's always something... there for her. Someone.
03:17 Bill. He literally is her open door. Somebody she can rely on no matter what. Not right from the start, but they've found ways to make this, this thing between them, work. It required a huge effort, on both sides, to get to this point. It didn't get there by itself. But they still made it from distrust and fear in "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down", to that hug full of promise in "Revelations".
03:32 I almost didn't include this scene. I had planned on ending the video on the "Faith" scene, but once I'd edited in "Revelations", the song was over, and it might have fitted just as well, might have fitted better, but I couldn't end it that way. It felt... incomplete. Thus, "Faith". This scene is, in my humble opinion, one of the most important moments in their entire relationship. "You. You made me believe." It shows more than anything how far they've come. Not just as a couple, not just as leaders of humanity, but as people. As two human beings who've been through a lot together.
Fin.
